How the arts world is embracing 3D cinema

3D cinema last year was dominated by animation and fantasy blockbusters such as Toy Story 3 and Alice in Wonderland - but now arthouse films are getting in on the act.

Last week the world of ballet took its first delicate and perfectly-poised steps into the world of 3D cinema.

I'm not sure how much I would enjoy seeing ballet in 3D in a cinema. I enjoy 3D and I think that dance is a good fit with the technology.

I'd just rather see live performance live.

Having said that, in a short-term future with potentially less touring by dance companies (and living outside of London) this might be a good opportunity to see ballets and performances one might not otherwise get the opportunity.

It might also be a valuable income stream for companies - if they can manage to make it appeal to a wider audience.
